The Art of Collin Douma

United Fauna
2011 - Ongoing

"If nature includes everything but us, then we’re not the heroes of this story. We’re the plot twist it’s trying to survive."
Collin Douma
I’m proud to have work from this collection featured in juried exhibitions including MOCA Hudson Valley, the Sedona Arts Center, The Holy Art Gallery in Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris, and the Byrdcliffe Coloney in Woodstock New York. Since 2024, the collection has toured New York State Free Libraries as a solo exhibition, bringing art into everyday public spaces.
For the past decade, I’ve focused on painting these pieces. In late 2024, I began reimagining them as sculptures—adding a new dimension to the work. This shift reflects my ongoing effort to explore new forms and tell stories that connect across mediums.
What are the animals to do?
They adapt. They salvage. They unite. They repurpose the wreckage we leave behind. Because, unlike us, they don’t need meaning. Just a way through the day. They don’t vote, or post, or pray for better leadership. They don’t wonder what it all means. They already know: survive, or don’t. We're in the way of that.
And someday—maybe soon—they’ll inherit our cities, our plastics, our perfectly preserved branded snacks. They’ll build new myths about the hairless apes who invented leaf blowers and extinction.
And then they’ll move on. Because they can. Because they have to.
So it goes. And so will we soon, I suppose.
